Medical Clinic


As another social concern, we conducted a medical clinic at St. Anne's Church hall, Hewaheta on the 11th of November 2012.  Six medical officers and a psychosocial counselling officer conducted this programme.  About 300 participants received treatment from this medical clinics.

Exposure Visit from Kandy Diocese to Batticaloa Diocese

We conducted an exposure programme under the guidance of the National Centre (SEDEC), through Caritas EHED Batticaloa, in order to build Sustainable Peace and Reconciliation among the major communities, Sinhala and Tamil.

About 55 Sinhalese from Dambulla and Rotawewa areas visited 'Pawakkudichenai' and 'Ghanthi Puram' villages in the war torn areas of Batticaloa district and shared their living experience with the Tamils in their residences for three days.

These two communities jointly took part in a religious observance in the 'Santha Malai' Hindu temple and prayed for peace and harmony in the country and not to occur a war in future.  

On the final day, the Sinhalese community extended an invitation to their Tamil counter parts to visit their area.  This exposure programme immensely both communities to improve their unity and harmony.

Universal Children's Day 2012

We commemorates the universal children's day which falls on the 01st October each year.  This programme, with so many features was held at the Matale town hall on the 20th of October 2012 with the participation of about 300 person including parents, religious dignitaries, police officers and officials from the education department.

The first act of this programme was a walk from St. Thomas' Church hall, Matale to the Town hall, which included the parents and children who carried banners displaying children's problems and cruelties in order to enlighten the people and to take action to prevent them.  This function took place in the from of a religious programme.

A discussion between the children and parents took place.  The problems and cruelties faced by the children were reviewed and some problems faced by the children in Matale District were revealed.  There was another discussion held among religious leaders, police officers and officers from other government institution, about the problems reveled from the previous discussion held between parents and children and action to be taken to get rid of this situation.

Before the conclusion of this programme, the participants emphasized the necessity of forcing the children to Sunday schools and to ban tuition classes on this day, to enable to lead the children for spiritual and moral development.  A petition was signed in this regard, to be forwarded to the authority concerned.

Visit of Ms. Marlies


Ms. Marlies Felfernig, the representative of DKA Austria for Sri Lanka, which provides financial aid to plantation and child labour units of our organization, paid a visit to the plantation areas in Matale and Nuwara Eliya and to our organization on 16th, 17th & 18th of October 2012 respectively, to review the progress achieved by the people, during the last two years and to discuss their future aid programmes. She said that she was very happy to learn the progress and changes in the plantation areas through the views of the community.
