Social Cohesion between Two Ethnic Groups

 
The youth group in the diocese of Kandy engaged with the youth group of diocese of Batticaloa to create peace and reconciliation among the youths in the country.  So, a group of 55 youths in Kandy district joined for an exposure programme with the youths of Batticaloa.  One of the main features if this exposure programme is the Blood donation made to the blood bank in Batticaloa Hospital............

Residential Computer Course

The objective of this training course is to provide an opportunity to the children of the poverty stricken families in the rural and plantation areas to enhance their computer knowledge, to enable them to secure suitable employment....................

Building Sustainable Peace and Reconcilliation

The peace programme was held between our organization and the 'EHED' organization of Batticaloa, for three days (4th, 5th & 6th of February 2013).

45 Members of the Tamil community from Pawakuttichenai, Batticaloa joined this programme at Pelwehera in Dambulla.  Owing to this peace programme, the fear and suspicion of the Tamil community to come to this Sinhala area has been completely vanished.

Grama Niladhari of the area and the Police Officers of  Dambulla provided their fullest corporation to make this programme a success.

SEMINARS ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT

Seminars on Disaster Management organized by our youth unit, were conducted at the SETIK Auditorium, Kandy and SETIK Centre, Hatton on 19th & 20th and 25th & 26th January respectively.

  • Difference between hazards and disasters
  • Identifying a disaster
  • Classification of disaster
  • Significance of team spirit in disaster situation
  • Disaster situation and defensive methods to be taken; were the themes of this programme.

Thambilideniya Water Project

Under the Integral Human Development project, the foundation for the "Jana Sisila" drinking water project, (funded by the Rotary Club of Colombo East) at Thambilideniya village in Matale District, was laid by Rev. Fr. Camillus D. Jansz, Director of Caritas Kandy (SETIK) amidst the blessings of religious dignitaries at the auspicious time on the 14th of January 2013.

About 62 families will be benefited from this service, which is due to be extended to 262 families.

International Teay Day

We celebrated the International Tea Day for the Fifth consecutive year in a grand scale at the Parish Hall of Holy Cross Church, Hatton on the 10th of December 2012, with the theme "Let us raise our voice to gain our Housing and Land rights".............
