SEMINARS ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT

Seminars on Disaster Management organized by our youth unit, were conducted at the SETIK Auditorium, Kandy and SETIK Centre, Hatton on 19th & 20th and 25th & 26th January respectively.

• Difference between hazards and disasters
• Identifying a disaster
• Classification of disaster
• Significance of team spirit in disaster situation
• Disaster situation and defensive methods to be taken; were the themes of this programme.

Thambilideniya Water Project

Under the Integral Human Development project, the foundation for the "Jana Sisila" drinking water project, (funded by the Rotary Club of Colombo East) at Thambilideniya village in Matale District, was laid by Rev. Fr. Camillus D. Jansz, Director of Caritas Kandy (SETIK) amidst the blessings of religious dignitaries at the auspicious time on the 14th of January 2013.

About 62 families will be benefited from this service, which is due to be extended to 262 families.

International Teay Day

We celebrated the International Tea Day for the Fifth consecutive year in a grand scale at the Parish Hall of Holy Cross Church, Hatton on the 10th of December 2012, with the theme "Let us raise our voice to gain our Housing and Land rights".............

Annual Evaluation 2012

Our annual evaluation was carried out on the 10th and 11th of December 2012 at our Auditorium.  Resource contribution was rendered by Mr. Sanath Fernando, an external evaluator on this occasion.  

The evaluation was conducted by comparing the information obtained from our staff and the community in field level with the project objectives, aims and the activities.

Progress of each project was subjected to this evaluation.  The resource contributor submitted the recommendations to be considered and followed during the forthcoming year.

Rev. Fr. Camillus D. Jansz and the staff members took part in this evaluation.  The staff was able to review their past activities and to plan the forthcoming year successfully.

Commemoration of International Migrants' Day 2012

The International Migrants' Day which falls on the 18th of December, was commemorated on the 08th of December from 09.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. at the SETIK Auditorium...........

Rainbow Children's Christmas Festival

The annual Christmas festival of the Rainbow children was celebrated in a grand scale on the 01st December 2012.

Peace Exposure Programme between the Dioceses of Kandy and Jaffna

Thirty two members belong to the sixteen C.B.O's in Central Province and four staff members of the IHDP project took part in this exposure programme, held on the 25th, 26th and 27th of November 2012 in Jaffna Diocese.

On the 25th & 26th, the visitors were able to witness the historical places in Jaffna devastated by the 30 year war.  After that, they were able to meet and share the bitter experience of the resettled refugees who were displaced during the war.

Later, they met the resettled people after being displaced due to war and shared their experience and they were able to realize the destruction caused to the human life.  On the 26th, the visitors shared their living experience with the host by spending the night.  This was arranged by Rev. Fr. Leo.

On the following day, they left Jaffna with firm fraternity and grief stricken mind.  Further, the guests and the host had decided to continue their relationship.

On the 27th, our group took part in a religious observance at the Nagadeepa Viharaya and the temple.  The devotion shown by the Rev. Fr. Director of HUDEC and Rev. Fr. Director of our organization should be very much appreciated.
